Musings about management, economies, business and life in general.
The Propitious Manager wandered through an honours degree in psychology, a bachelors degree in economics and later an MBA. Among many things, the PM worked as a piano player, in research and policy in government and then as a more and more senior manager in private industry. Eventually, having survived years of 12 hour days, hundreds of staff and many crazy management styles, the PM decided that Corporations are a fine place to pay your mortgage but chose to spend more time with the family and consult in business from home.
The PM is curious about how people make business decisions (good and poor) and the fragility of human nature – while there must be trust in business there is always reason to be cautious.
Once some years ago, the PM was introduced to the ideas of free markets and rational decisions in some economics lecture and admired how bravely the lecturer delivered these ideas, and with such conviction. It was some years later when it became clear that the lecturer must have had a substantial mortgage.
The PM is not a cynic and agrees in principle with Abraham Maslow that money in the bank is important to our survival but there are more illustrious ambitions to pursue before it all ends.
The PM writes this blog to exercise the mind and because you don’t have to impress the boss or anyone, for that matter…..
